Rally Poland environmentally friendly

Date: 2011-08-10 23:50

Fans and competitors of Rally Poland held recent years in Mazury were used to July time of running the event. So the announcement of the new, September date was quite surprising. Reasons for the decision were few and the most important - protecting the environment. The period of breeding of birds in Poland lasts until 15 July and Polish Automobile and Motorcycle Federation  (PZM) – as suggested by the Wildlife Conservation Officer - decided to change the current date of the rally, which takes place in areas inhabited by many rare species.

The change is permanent and in the successive seasons Rally Poland will be entered to the calendar of Polish Rally Championship in autumn time. The September date will be also reported to the FIA international calendar.

Organizers of the rally take steps to preserve the ecosystem of Mazury, which values they also promote during the event, for a long time. Introducing a new date of the Rally, which ensures peace for birds at time of breeding, is not the only action taken to protect the nature.

- As every year, all routes have been marked out in consultation with the Provincial Wildlife Conservation Officer. We also always carry on a variety of activities related to ecology and preservation of the environment. This time, as in previous years, we finance informational boards, which will be found in places of special natural value. Such actions aim to promote knowledge about Mazury and the necessity of protecting the region - said Tomasz Bartoś, Rally Poland’s Clerk of the Course.

Caring for the environment is not only an additional action of the organizers, but also a reality of the rally - visible especially in the service park. Rally cars are placed on special mats, which don’t let harmful substances (such as motor oil) through to the ground. For waste containing ingredients that can poison the environment special containers will be used. At the rally also recycling applies – for rubbish suitable for recycling appropriately marked bins will be available. According to the Environmental Protection Regulations in Motorsport, adopted by PZM, the organizers also have to try to reduce noise as much as possible - both emitted by cars, and by the sounds of the event.
